Donna Rae Smith

Donna Rae Smith, age 72 of Baldwin, passed away December 5, 2016 at the American Heritage Care Center. Donna was born June 5, 1944 in Menomonie, WI, the daughter of Raymond Oscar and Selena Orvilla (Odegard) Olson. She graduated from Menomonie High School, the Class of 1962. She was united in marriage on December 1, 1962 to Lane Orval Smith at the Little Elk Creek Church in Menomonie. Their marriage was blessed with four daughters: Terri, Kathryn, Julie, and Nicole. They shared 19 years of marriage until Lane’s death in August of 1982. She retired from Donaldson Company after 25 years of service as a Purchasing Agent.

Donna enjoyed her time at Gethsemane Lutheran Church. She especially delighted in being a part of the choir, appreciating the music, and treasured the friendships gained. In her quiet time, Donna was fond of gardening, knitting, and being a part of the Nutty Knitters group.

Donna is survived by her daughters: Terri (Jim) Kreitman of Kona, HI, Kathryn (Daniel) Angst of Appleton, Julie (Jim) Giossi of New Richmond, and Nicole (Bradford) Thompson of Wilmington, NC; 10 grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy (Keith) Behling, Dolores (Roy) Cropp, and Dianne (Fred) Weier; sister-in-law, Judy (Dave) Jenson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lane; brother, David Olson; and her parents.

A Memorial Service will take place 11:00 AM Monday, December 12, 2016 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1350 Florence St., Baldwin, with Pastor Paul Backstrom officiating. A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at church. Interment will take place at the Baldwin Cemetery. Funeral services are entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin (715) 684-3434.
