Pearl Grotenhuis, age 90 of Baldwin, died peacefully February 4, 2017 at the Baldwin Care Center. Pearl was born on February 2, 1927 in Baldwin township, the daughter of Herman and Elizabeth Grotenhuis. Pearl attended East Baldwin Grade School before graduating from Baldwin High School. In 1944, she began working at the office of Harold D. Olson in Baldwin. She was a dedicated and loyal employee who worked for Mr. Olson for 45 years. She was a member of the First Reformed Church where she was a circle member, choir member, and Sunday School teacher for many years. She enjoyed music and playing the piano and organ. Pearl will be remembered for her humble, simple, and proper demeanor who enjoyed helping others.
She is survived by her sister, Irene Hopp and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings: Lucy (Garrett) Hopp, Cora (Marvin) Hauschildt, Mae (Don) DeYoung, George (Anna) Grotenhuis, Bessie (Warren) Bartlett, Clara (Harry) Harmsen; two infant brothers; and brother-in-law, Louis Hopp.
Funeral Services for Pearl will be 11:00 am Thursday, February 9th at the First Reformed Church in Baldwin. Burial will be in the Baldwin Cemetery with casketbearers being: David Kruschke, Scott Myers, Adam Johnson, Duane DeYoung, Jason Erickson, and Tim DeYoung. Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 8th at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin, and also one hour prior to the service at church on Thursday. Memorials preferred to the First Reformed Church.
