August H. LaRenzie III

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we share his passing on August 21, 2023 at the age of 69. He had many roles in life, but none more important than husband to Tam, Pops to Jude (Emily) and Andre, and of course his new found joy of being Grampy to Scarlett Grace and Little man Augie (V). Brother to Susie Wilkinson, Alida (Dick) Herling and Grant (Tracy) LaRenzie. Son in law to Judy Seidl and brother-in-law to Rick (Judy), Ron (Joan), Joe (Libby), and Teri (Paul) Richardson. Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and cousin to many. His love for family ran deep and was unconditional.

Augie enjoyed time spent on the St. Croix river, the mountains (especially Idaho), the north woods, the beaches of Florida, the BWCA, the LaRenzie/Carter family cottage in Phelps, WI, and the special home he shared with Tam on the shores of Mother (Lake) Superior where he could enjoy daily World’s Best Donuts. His sense of adventure was fed by travelling the world for both work and play. A few favorites were time spent in the Patagonia region of Argentina, exploring the many beauties of New Zealand, walking the white sand beaches of Florida, hiking the mountains especially Idaho, and of course Jude and Emily’s Icelandic wedding. His passion for music followed him his entire life. Guitar first and foremost with a soft spot for Taylor guitars. His home always had a piano so he could bang on the keys when the mood hit. He was also a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers, enjoyed watching the MN Twins and the Wild, but mostly loved to watch and support his boys play hockey. His dedication to his entrepreneurial spirit was fulfilled through his company which he ran with Tam for 35 years, until his retirement. Customers appreciated his integrity and work ethic. Employees came to know him for his kindness, respect, and generosity.

During the past year Augie has shared with Tam and to several family members that he was satisfied with his life. No regrets, no what ifs, no unforgiveness, no looking back. He was raised in a great family. Loved Tam deeply. Had an exceptional loving pride for his sons and daughter in law with the icing on the cake being his grandchildren. With this great gift we are able to find peace. We give thanks to God that we have that in our hearts as well as his legacy that will live on through those he loved.

He loved well and was well loved.

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 14107 Hudson Rd. S., Afton MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials will be made in August LaRenzie’s name and memory to the Oakland Jr. High Orchestra.

“When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rain with clothe it with blessings.” – Psalms 84:6

  1. What a beautiful, written tribute. I think these words describe my uncle Augie very well. I am blessed to have known him and to have him as part of my family. My son Dylan cherishes the guitar he got from Aug and plays it regularly.
Sending my love to Tam, Jude and Andre and all the family and friends who loved Augie.

  2. Always so welcoming and full of cheer: that’s how I will remember my uncle. I feel very blessed to have been able to spend a couple of days with him this summer in Grand Marais, MN. While I was there, I got to see him out on his deck, playing his guitar and singing to the big lake. When he saw me there watching him, he smiled. He was in his element. I thought, “Now, here’s a guy who knows how to welcome joy into his life!” That’s going to be my most lasting memory of him: there on that deck in the sun, singing.
