Zappa, Anthony “Tony” age 97 of North Hudson passed away peacefully May 21, 2024 at the Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater.

Tony was born July 26, 1926, the son of Italian immigrants in North Hudson, WI. He graduated from the Hudson High School.

He served in the US Navy during World War II.

He and Jane E. Gilbertson, wife of 69 years, were married in 1954.

Tony was 30 years retired from Zappa Bros. Excavating, a company he and two of his brothers (James & Eugene)

started in 1946.

Tony was an avid gardener and Packer fan. He was also active in the Hudson Community, serving on various organization boards donating

his time and resources. Of these pursuits, the North Hudson Pepper Festival was always the closest to his heart.

Preceded in death by his wife Jane in 2023; daughter Jana; parents Antonio & Maria Zappa, brothers James, Eugene, & Henry; and sisters Josephine, Mary, & Theresa.

Survived by three children Marc (Kim), Gary, & Maria Moberg; grandchildren Alexandra, Nicholas, Kristine, Julia and Sophia Zappa, and Nicole & Marcus Moberg.

Mass of Christian Burial Friday, May 31, 2024 11 AM with visitation 10 AM-11AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Hudson. Interment will be at the church cemetery. A luncheon will be held after the burial back at the church.

Memorials are preferred to the charity of choice.

  1. Tony, was a Hudson icon who was. known by a very large percentage Hudson residents. His handsome image driving one of big yellow company trucks was impossible to ignore. He did some work for me for a very fair amount. He has and will be missed. RIP Tony. John Ewing

  2. I have fond memories of this great man. When my grandpa, uncle, and dad built homes in Hudson, Tony and crew dug the basements. He was always so friendly and kind, and had the greatest smile! My condolences to the family.

    And so the number of saints above is increased by one, leaving behind an empty space that will never be filled except through the gift of memory. We celebrate with you your beloved father’s life and the many lives he touched.

    May you miss him deeply, forgive him often, and always claim the best of him in you. Our sympathies, thoughts, and prayers remain with you in your grief even as you reflect on the promises of God to provide a reunion in heaven.
