Dale Alfred Sarnstrom, age 85 of Ellsworth, died Friday, April 7th 2023 at the Ellsworth Care Center. Dale was born on January 1st, 1938 in Red Wing, Minnesota; the son of Alfred and Alberta (Irvine) Sarnstrom. He was raised in Hager City and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Armed Forces where he proudly served in the United States Army. He would be stationed at Fort Sheridan before being placed at Bremerhaven, Germany.

He was married to the former Joyce Granheim at the Svea Lutheran Church in Hager City. To this union, children Tina, Kelly, Aaron, and Jeff were born. Dale farmed for a good portion of his life as well as work at the Ellsworth Cooperative Creamery. He was a hard worker that gave all he had as his work ethic was very stringent.

It could be said that one of his favorite pastimes was going to local auctions to find that something he couldn’t live without. Outside of getting a great deal, he enjoyed seeing old friends and getting caught up on all the chatter on what was going on in Ellsworth. He was a dog lover as they brought him great companionship. He was proud of his service to his country and was a member of the Ellsworth Kinne – Engelhart American Legion Post. He took great pride in his farmstead and enjoyed tooling around on his ATV making sure all was well on his land. He always looked forward to an opportunity to see his grandchildren.

Dale is survived by his children Tina (Deane) Hinrichs, Kelly (Steve) Wood, Son Jeff Sarnstrom; daughter-in-law Gloria Sarnstrom. He is further survived by his Grandkids Dana & Hannah, Chase, Zoey, Hunter, AJ and Emeilia, Autumn, Everette & Edward as well as Great Grandkids Noah, Eivan, Parker and Emery. His wife Joyce and son Aaron precede him in death.

A memorial gathering for Dale will be will be 2:00PM to 4:00PM, Saturday, April 22nd at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth. Military honors paying respect to his service in the United States Army will be performed by the Ellsworth Kinne – Engelhart American Legion. Interment will be private. Memorial preferred to the discretion of the family. Cremation and memorial gathering entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth.
