Doris Marie Nelson, age 92 of Prescott, WI, died on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. Doris was born on December 18, 1928 in Red Wing, MN to parents Frank and Emma (Timmerberg) Johnson. She attended school in Red Wing. On January 17, 1948, Doris was united in marriage to Orville Nelson. Their union in marriage was blessed with six children, two generations of grandchildren, and over 73 years of love and devotion.
Doris was a dedicated prayer warrior. If you were a friend or family member of Doris’, you were loved, and in her prayers. After years of raising a family and working together at the family business, she and Orville enjoyed spending winters in Plant City, FL. Doris enjoyed table games, and card games, especially Skip-Bo. She was excellent at quilting, embroidery, and crocheting. Doris made quilted blankets and afghans for all of her grandchildren. Doris enjoyed flower gardening, watching Wheel of Fortune and General Hospital, and listening to music, from Elvis to gospel hymns. She will be missed dearly by family and friends alike.
Doris is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Orville; her children, Nancy (John) Haarstad, Jim (Jane) Nelson, Ron (Suzi) Nelson, Gloria Nelson, Roger (Cindy) Nelson, and Mike (Terri) Nelson; twenty grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren, with another due in April; as well as, her sister, Bernice Bennett; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Emma Johnson; and brothers, LaVern “Bud”, Floyd, and Donald.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, and with the safety and concern for others in mind, a private family service will be held. However, Doris’ service will be livestreamed at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 9th on the Bethel Covenant Church Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/bethelcovenantchurch . Pastor Todd Spieker will officiate. Doris’ final resting place will be at the Bethel Covenant Church Cemetery.
