Leo “Chip” SimonesNovember 30, 1964 – September 23, 2014 Chip Simones passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 23, 2014 after a year-long battle with breast cancer. He’s gone to stay by Leo P.’s side forever and make sure he’ll always be able to program that damn VCR.Chip will be remembered by his family as a devoted uncle, cousin, son and big brother. He was a mainstay for years at the Price Rite liquor store in Prescott and later at Jake’s Discount Liquor in Coates. His customers never failed to get a cheery response from him when he took their money, and Chip always thought of his regulars as friends.Chip was a gentle giant who wouldn’t hesitate to give the shirt off his back to help someone – anyone – in need. While quiet and reserved, he was fearless and knew what was right, sticking by it even if everyone else lacked the courage to do so. He made those around him better people and never wanted the credit for it.His passions included computers, deer hunting, science documentaries, and the Green Bay Packers. He loved to scuba dive and was thrilled to dive in places like Cozumel Mexico and the Florida Keys. Chip became his cousin’s hero by impossibly recovering her engagement ring from the St. Croix River. Most people embellish stories, making the events or the people seem more than they actually were. With Chip it’s the opposite. Only now is his family learning about things Chip did that were so much more extraordinary than when he would talk about them.Chip was preceded in death by his grandparents, his paternal uncles and aunt, and his father, Leo P. He is survived by his loving mother, Kathy of Phillips, Wisconsin, 4 little brothers, C.J. (Kimberlee) of Farmington, Minnesota, Pat (Melissa) of Hudson, Wisconsin, Joe (Laura) of Delano, Minnesota, and Ben of Honolulu, Hawaii, countless cousins, nieces and nephews, and virtually the entire town of Prescott.Hill Funeral Home & Cremation Services Prescott, WI., is serving the family.
