Neil A. Gulden

Neil Arden Gulden, 75, of Hudson, WI, passed away on December 18, 2016 at Woodland Hill in Hudson, WI.

Neil was born March 17, 1941 in Montevideo, MN to Elvin and Amy (Abel) Gulden. Neil graduated in 1959 from Montevideo High School where he met his future wife, Julie Einerson in 1957.

Neil and Julie were married October 9, 1962, and settled in Richfield, MN where he attended night school at U of MN while working at Honeywell. Neil had an engineer’s mind and a farmer’s heart and made the leap of a lifetime to buy a farm and move with his wife and two young children to 160 acres outside their hometown of Montevideo. He worked in town during the day and farmed at night for three years until moving to Mora, MN to become a Quality Assurance Manager. They moved back to Montevideo before moving to Wausau, WI in 1978, where he was a Quality Assurance Manager at Crestline and then Semling-Menke Company for many years. In his later working years, he designed and developed numerous window parts and was a manufacturer’s representative. They retired to Surprise, AZ in 2003 where they had nine light-hearted years, and moved to Hudson in 2012.

Neil was an avid outdoorsman when he was in good health, enjoying hunting, fishing, and simply being in the fresh air. He was never more content than to have his family near him and even better, if there was a Jag or Blue Bloods rerun playing at the same time. He was blessed with an abundance of common sense and believed there was no problem that couldn’t be solved with a pencil and graph paper. He often didn’t say much, but his words and actions always spoke volumes. Neil was a proud Navy vet and enjoyed reflecting on long flights over Iceland and Norway. Neil was a man of great faith, whose Bible was held together with electrician’s tape; he was a church usher at Mt. Calvary Lutheran in Rothschild, WI and served on the church council at Lord of Life in Surprise, AZ.

Neil is survived by his son, Dan of Langley, WA; daughter, Stacy and son-in-law, Jack, of Hudson; brothers: Dean Gulden (Jean) of Grand Marais, MN and Myles Gulden of Sacred Heart, MN along with brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Julie.

Neil was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson, WI, where he will be interred. A private service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 23 2016 at Bethel Lutheran Church – Downtown Campus, 920 Third Street, Hudson. Memorials may be given to Bethel Lutheran Church in care of the Hudson Food Shelf, 920 Third St., Hudson, WI 54016.
