Raymond Kanis

Raymond L. Kanis, age 66 of Shakopee, MN, formerly of Baldwin, WI, passed away June 13, 2016, surrounded by his children at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis. Ray was born December 18, 1949 in Baldwin, WI to George and Celia (Doornink) Kanis. He graduated from Baldwin High School, the Class of 1968. Ray furthered his education at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI and University of Wisconsin – River Falls. Ray’s life was blessed with four children: Michelle, Kelly, Craig and Robert. He called Baldwin home for 35 years. He was a devoted member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church during that time. Ray worked as a Sales Engineer for Thermotron for many years.

Outside of his work, Ray enjoyed listening to music, especially the Eagles. He was a devoted Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan, who delighted in cheering on his team. Most important to Ray was his family. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, who cherished his time with his children and grandchildren. He was their biggest fan at hockey and other sporting events, loved taking in a good movie with them, and provided unconditional love always.

Ray will remain in the hearts of his children: Michelle (David) McConnell, Kelly (Mark Slama) Kanis-Slama, Craig (Kara) Kanis, and Rob (Lisa) Kanis; grandchildren: Griffin, Brooke, Brandon, Lauren, Maddie, Jessie and Cavin; siblings: Elvira Larson, Grace (Delmar) Polzin, Wayne (Audrey) Kanis and Roy (Glenda) Kanis. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Celia Kanis; and brothers, Kenneth & Calvin Kanis.

Memorial Services will take place 11:00 AM Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1350 Florence St., Baldwin. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place at the Baldwin Cemetery.
