Stanley Meyer, age 84 of Baldwin, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Good Friday, March 25, 2016 at Comforts of Home in Baldwin. Stanley was born April 8, 1931 in River Falls WI to parents Isaac and Mathilda (nee Tegrootenhuis) Meyer. Stan attended the Hammond Christian School, and graduated from Baldwin High School in the class of 1949. Stan worked for Wernlund Welding after high school, and then for B & B Implement in Wisconsin Rapids. On March 20, 1952 Stan would be united in marriage to Dorothy Smits. In August of 1952, Stan was inducted into the Army, and served in Korea. Then in August of 1954, he and Dorothy moved to Baldwin, and Stan began working for his grandfather at Tegrootenhuis John Deere Implement. In 1964 he bought the business after the death of his grandfather. In 1970 to 1971, the business was moved to new buildings at the north corner of Baldwin, and the name changed to Meyer Implement. He and Dorothy earned many award trips from John Deere all over the world. Stan would retire in 1998.
Stan was also a member of Gideons International since 1971, distributing testaments and performing jail ministries. He also traveled to Russia and Africa to distribute testaments on mission trips. Stan also served on the Baldwin Christian School Board, and the consistory of his church. Stan enjoyed restoring old tractors, and had a shed full of them. He also collected precision toy tractors and had nearly a hundred of them. Stan also enjoyed gardening and took pride in his grapes, raspberries, strawberries, apples and sweet corn. In retirement, Stan worked part time for his son Glenn at Day & Nite Towing from 1999 until 2008. After having a stroke in 2009, Stan spent his time at Comforts of Home in Baldwin.
Stan is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; children, Glenn (Kandy) Meyer of Baldwin, Brenda (Roger) Lokker of Preston MN, and Mark (Marla) Meyer of Neenah WI; grandchildren, Nicolle (Jerry) Emmert, Joe (Sherri) Meyer, Cassandra Lokker, Carrie (Loren) Mathison, Rebecca (Tim) Ortner, Karla (Tim) Melver, Kelsi, Luke, and Jacob Meyer; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Roza, and Lane Emmert, Isaac Meyer, and Cora and Landyn Mathison; step-grandchildren, Shannon (Mic) Klin, Shawn (Erin) Timm; step-great-grandchildren, Kelson and Brayden Klin, Trey and Addison Timm; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is further survived by his sister Pauline (Ron) Siegersma, and sister-in-law Petronella Meyer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Loren Meyer.
Funeral Services for Stanley Meyer will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, March 31st at the Christian Reformed Church of Baldwin, with Pastor Anson Veenstra officiating. Burial will be in the Baldwin Cemetery, with full military honors provided by Baldwin American Legion Post 240. Active casketbearers will be Joe Meyer, Bruce Siegersma, Luke Meyer, Jacob Meyer, Loren Mathison, Jerry Emmert with his granddaughters serving as honorary casketbearers. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00pm at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Memorials are preferred to Gideons International and the Baldwin Christian Reformed Church. Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin WI. 715-684-3434
