Audrey Mae Samuel

Audrey Mae Samuel, born on July 18, 1930, in St. Paul, Minnesota, led a life filled with love, service, and dedication to her family and community. Audrey was the daughter of Angus Parker Wilson and Hazel Harding Wilson, and she spent her early years attending Bay City Grade School before graduating from Red Wing Central High School in 1948.

On October 14, 1948, Audrey married the love of her life, the late Otto Joel Samuel, in a ceremony officiated by Reverend George Bartell at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in rural Ellsworth, Wisconsin. Their union was blessed with two sons, Merlin Otto (Shari) Samuel and the late James Allen (Ann) Samuel; grandchildren Amanda, Adam, Tyler, and Aaron; three great-grandchildren.

Audrey was a devoted wife and mother, balancing her family responsibilities with a career. Before her marriage, she worked for an insurance company in St. Paul, MN. After her marriage to Otto, Audrey dedicated herself to supporting her family’s farm, as well as working in bookkeeping for Helmer Printing from 2000 to 2008.

Audrey’s dedication to her family extended beyond the home; she was actively involved in various organizations within her community. One of her favorite pastimes was sewing and knitting mittens and stocking caps for Shriners Hospital for Children, demonstrating her compassion and generosity. She was also an active member of Ellsworth Presbyterian Church until its closure, where she taught kindergarten Sunday school class.

In addition to her church involvement, Audrey was a committed member of the Ellsworth Chapter #116 of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she contributed her time and energy since 1979. Additionally, she was a member of the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels, further showcasing her dedication to service.

On February 19, 2024, Audrey Mae Wilson Samuel achieved one of her goals, which was to pass away in her own home in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. Audrey’s memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives she touched. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Bay City Cemetery in Bay City, Wisconsin.
