Barbara Hunter George, 85, of Hudson, WI passed away on February 17, 2024.

Those that knew her could testify that Barbara was a wonderful reflection of sisu, a Finnish concept that emulates the ability to sustain strength of will and perseverance. She was, as described by those that loved her most, a spit-fire, where her love and quirk always sat at a 10 on a 1-10 scale.

Barbara was born May 25th, 1938 in Racine, WI to Ralph and Eileen (Rinta) Hunter. Bob and Barbara were high school sweethearts and were married 63 years ago in Racine, WI. The two did a lot of living before having children of their own – moving and traveling all over the world and even with their beloved dog, Putsy. Stories of hunting in Montana, stern looks and a wooden spoon when misbehaving, and big celebrations for birthdays and Christmas. The two were blessed with two children, Rob and Kristin.

Barbara worked as an occupational health customer service representative for 3M and had multiple other job titles throughout her life as her and Bob moved around. She loved her pets and would give anything to help a stray animal.

Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Bob; children, Rob (Jauna) George; and Kristin (Brent) Carlson and grandchildren, Clara George, Abby and Hunter Carlson; brother, Corky; and adored pets, Rollie, Ralph, and Sammy.

She is preceded by her parents, Ralph and Eileen Hunter; brother, Butch; and aunt Helvie.

A visitation for Barbara will be held at O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. Eleventh Street, Hudson, WI on Friday March 1, 2024 at 12:30pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm. A toast will be held after at Pier 500.

  1. Oh, I am so very sorry, & shocked, as you all are! You described her so well! She was my sister, Nancy’s best friend, & we all spent time together in a home Nancy rented in California on the coast. I was looking forward to spending time with her for my sister’s birthday in June. My deepest sympathy to her whole family.

  2. I keep thinking about dear Barb, & this just came to my memory: I keep hearing in my Alzheimers Support Groups that iTs usually the Caregiver who goes first! So very sad.

  3. I just can’t get Barbara’s passing out of my mind. As shocking as it is, I take time to thank God for calling her home as he did. I have so many fond memories of her over our 36 year friendship. Coming to my house while I was on bedrest with both kids. Calling her at the Cottage when I had Dakota. Her rescuing Chance and his brother, and she tried like heck to talk me into taking the other puppy. McKenna delivering GS Cookies to her. I was so thankful that we were able to visit at the Cottage for a few days. I will miss calling her on May 25th for her birthday and seeing her when I visit the Twin Cities. Dear Bob and family, we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

  4. I have so many fond memories of Barb and her family. I babysat for them when the kids were little. I will always remember Barb walking her beloved dogs and always having a smile for everyone. She was a truly great lady. She will be deeply missed.

  5. Barbara was a wonderful neighbor for nearly 20yrs! Her quick stride on her daily walks always rewarded us with pleasant greeting and a beaming smile!

  6. I just saw the posting this morning that Barb had passed. I am deeply saddened. At the last election Barb snuck into the line so we could catch up. She celebrates the birth of our daughter with a favorite stuffed bear. When we moved to Hudson years later our kids always loved seeing her walk her dogs down Trout Brook Road. She taught me how to do customer service well at 3M and how to have work life balance. She was one of a kind. My thoughts are with the George family.
