Glen Arthur Geurkink, age 82 of Baldwin WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the Baldwin Care Center. Glen was born July 4, 1928 in Baldwin WI to parents Lamoine and Josephine (Wieberdink) Geurkink. He was baptized, confirmed, and a member of the Presbyterian Church. Glen attended school in Baldwin, and graduated from Baldwin High School. Glen enlisted in 1946, and after serving in the Army, returned home to work for Home Produce Egg Station for a short while. Glen soon got into farming, and also worked at the St. Croix County Highway Department for 25 years. In later years, while still farming, Glen also worked for the Baldwin-Woodville School District driving school bus for 15 years. Glen was united in marriage to Lorraine Marie Preston on October 1, 1949 in Baldwin WI. Their union in marriage would be blessed with three children, and 61 years together.
With Glen, discussing horses with other horse lovers always made for a good day. Glen had a love for horses, and over the years he proudly owned and raised draft horses, quarter horses and paint horses. Glen also enjoyed being a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, as well as the Draft Horse Association. Here at home, Glen was a member of the St. Croix Riders Saddle Club.
Glen is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorraine; his children, Jerry (Amy) Geurkink of Baldwin WI, Debbie (Dennis) Benson of Baldwin WI, and Steven (Roxanne) Geurkink of Bloomer WI; 9 grandchildren, Tracy (Heather), Katie, Kelli (Jeff), Tom, Kyle, Abby, Garett, Jason, and Lindsey; 7 great-grandchildren, Sam, Derrick, Kole, Dillon, Klay, Grace, and Josie; sisters, Lois (Ken) Kohlrusch of New Richmond WI, and Carol (Richard) Carlson of New Richmond WI; sister-in-law Shirley Preston Johnson of Baldwin WI, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Glen was preceded in death by his parents Lamoine and Josephine Geurkink; and his brother-in-law, Don Preston.
Funeral Services for Glen Geurkink will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, April 7th at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1350 Florence Street in Baldwin with Pastor Lowell Bolstad officiating. Burial will follow at the Baldwin Cemetery. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services at church, and also from 4:00-7:00PM on Wednesday at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 1010 Newton Street in Baldwin.
