Jeffrey John Hommes, beloved man of family and deep faith, inspirational coach and mentor, of River Falls, WI, passed away on February 10th from colon cancer at age 56.  He was born on June 4, 1967 to John and Phyllis (Schafer) Hommes and raised in Cannon Falls, MN.  He graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato and obtained a master’s certificate in business process management from Villanova University. He and his loving wife Beth, were united in marriage on June 23, 1990.

Jeff excelled in his 28+ year career in financial services with Wells Fargo, and as director of sponsorships for the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation and Parish Administrator at St. Patrick’s parish in Hudson.

Jeff made each day a living day. He sought opportunities to make a difference, and to fulfill his purpose in life. He was a giver, not a taker, and he graciously shared his many blessings and talents with all who knew him. Jeff was a proud father and loving grandfather, and he embraced every opportunity to make memories with his grandchildren.

He found his greatest joys and peace at the lake in northern Wisconsin, and in the boundary waters with his family and friends, surrounded by God’s creation.  Jeff loved participating in and following sports of all kinds, and was a long suffering and passionate Vikings fan. Jeff embraced new adventures and challenges, and he enjoyed fishing, biking, cross-country skiing, puzzling, bee keeping and syrup making, cooking and making amazing wood fired pizzas.  As a coach, mentor, and strategic thought partner, he provided attentive, engaging and well-reasoned guidance, with a big dose of “there’s no such thing as can’t” encouragement.  He spoke volumes with his actions. His most treasured gifts were his wife, sons, daughter-in-laws and grandchildren.

Jeff was profoundly grateful for the supportive care he received from the medical professionals who fought for his life with him.  Jeff deeply felt the prayers, love and support expressed by so many, and wished that everyone could experience the comfort and assurance of knowing they are respected and loved.

Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Beth, and their children Beau (Katy) and Michael (Hannah); grandchildren Henry, Kit and Ben; father, John; siblings Lisa (Tom) Weber, Joe (Susie), Tony (Tiffany), nieces and nephews, and many other beloved family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Phyllis.

Join us to celebrate Jeff’s life at O’Connell Family Funeral Home at 520 11th Street S, Hudson, WI 54016 on Friday, February 16th at 4–7 PM, prayer service at 7:00.
