Lorraine Ruth (LaPoint) Barber, age 92, of Hudson, Wisconsin passed away on January 2, 2024.

Lorraine was born April 3, 1931 to Edward and Eleanor LaPoint in Eau Claire, WI. She attended schools in Eau Claire. It was there she met her love, Harold Barber. They wed in Stillwater, MN October 8, 1949. They made their home in Eau Claire until 1965 when they moved to Hudson. It was there she began selling Avon Products where she was affectionally called the “Ding Dong Lady.”

Lorraine and Harold had three children, Mike, Jean Ann and Ruth Ann.

Lorraine was enjoyed by many and always had an infectious laugh. Often she she made fun of herself by saying, “Call me Missing Parts” because as a child she lost her right eye in an accident, donated one kidney to her sister and had her appendix removed.

Lorraine is survived by her son, Mike and Jackie Barber of Moville, IA; daughter Jean Ann and her husband Steve Becken of Houlton, WI; granddaughter Rebecca and her husband Charlie Gillis; grandsons Kyle Becken and his wife Amy; Chris Barber and his wife Christy; and Kevin Barber and his wife Kindra. There are also 7 great grandchildren; Ava, Nora, Drew, Kati, Ian, Evelyn and Aiden; and her brother Doug LaPoint and his wife Rose of Eau Claire, also many extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold; infant daughter Ruth Ann, sisters Marjorie, Barbara, Eva; brothers Harold, Jerry, Joseph, William.

Visitation 3-4 PM with 4 PM Funeral Service on Friday January 5, 2024 at O’Connell Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th Street, Hudson, WI 54016 followed by cremation. Burial will be at a later date.

  1. Aunt Lorraine was always a joy to be around. She will be dearly missed. Praying for God’s peace for your family.

  2. My memories of Lorraine would fill a book. We had coffee every morning at her house in La Féria ,then lunch somewhere and at night cards, bingo,etc. Our trips to Mexico will always be remembered. Rest In Peace my friend until we meet again.

  3. A room always got brighter when Aunt Lorraine walked in. We’ll always remember her laugh and beautiful smile. Our deepest sympathies and prayers to her entire family.

  5. Lorraine was a good friend of my moms. They were at Kenwood tv park in so Texas. They had so much fun, she was a good friend of all of us(Betty’s kids.
    She went on a cruise w mom and and all her kids, she was a part of our family! Always cutting up having fun. She had a lot of good years at Kennwood w a lot of friends! Betty schneider( deceased) &Nancy Weldon
