Margaret “Peg” Schmitz

Margaret “Peg” Schmitz (Nee Cunningham) age 86 of North Hudson died Monday December 29, 2014 at Home Town Senior Living in Hudson. Peg was born on September 26, 1928 in Ellsworth, Wisconsin; the daughter of John “Jack” and Magdalena “Lena” (Richter) Cunningham. The family would move to Hudson when she was two. She attended St. Patrick’s Parochial School prior to graduating from the Hudson High School in the class of ’47. She would meet and marry her best friend Raymond Michael Schmitz at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson on May 28, 1960. St. Patrick’s would serve as the cornerstone of her family’s faith and life. She served on the PCCW and Hope Choir. Early in their marriage, she worked for United Refrigeration in Hudson. However, when they were blessed with children, being a mom became the utmost priority. She loved cooking/baking and having the family and grandchildren over.  She enjoyed time spent quilting, sewing, and knitting. When she found a quiet minute at home, she took pleasure in reading a good book. Simply put, Peg was a quiet woman who filled her house with love while appreciating the little things in life.

Peg will forever live on in the hearts of husband Ray; children Mary Matz of Hudson, Peter (Karen) Schmitz of Michigan, Ann (Fran) Michaud of Scandia, MN, Mike (Tammy) Schmitz of Eau Claire; ten grandchildren: Jennifer Matz, Katie (Lorne) Wright, Amy (Sam) Kellerman, Jeff Schmitz, Ryan Schmitz, Justin Schmitz, Meghan Schmitz, Ben Schmitz, Carrie Schmitz, Jason Schmitz; great grandchildren Kayla Lilly and Parker; and her sister Judy O’Connor. She joins in Heaven; her parents; sisters Grace (Ed) Haessly, Sally (Ernie) Ritchie, Jeanne (Bob) Souter, Rosemary Cunningham, brother Bill (Mary) Cunningham, and brother-in-law Richard “Dick” O’Connor.

Mass of Christian Burial for Peg Schmitz will be 11AM Saturday January 3 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson with Fr. Patrick McConnell officiating. The parish Hope Choir will provide music. Burial will be in the parish cemetery with her grandchildren serving as casketbearers. Visitation will be on Friday, January 2 from 4 to 7PM with a prayer service at 6:45 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, as well as one hour prior to the mass at church on Saturday morning. Memorials preferred.
