She was born on December 2, 1927 in Rice Lake, WI, to parents George and Ellen (Schmotter) Starr and graduated from Hudson High school. She married William Loughney on June 20, 1953 and together they raised a family on their cattle farm in Troy Township. Once her children were grown, she went back to work as a secretary for Midwest Medical in Afton.

Marie played the organ at St. Patrick Catholic Parish for 35 years where she played for many weddings and funerals. When she was younger, she enjoyed being a member of her bowling league and made many cherished memories on fishing trips with her husband William and her children. After retiring, Marie and William made countless trips to Treasure Island and Turtle Lake Casino.

Marie loved her family more than anything else and absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite activity was bingo and she looked forward to it every week. She was also a talented knitter and crocheter, as well as a fantastic cook and baker.

Marie will remain in the hearts of her children, Mark (Debby) Loughney, Kathy (Jerry) Willemssen, John (Colleen) Loughney, and Anne (Dick) Wier; 9 grandchildren, William (Ashley), Brian (Heather), Robin (Mark), Heidi (Scott), Kyle (Jordan), Sean (Esther), Dan, Bob (Sami) and Mandy (Justin); 16 great-grandchildren, Wilson, Finley, Liam, Lilah, Payton, Max, Tyler, Sydney, Thomas, Nash, Bode, Lane, Hank, Beau, Levi, and Sawyer; Brother in law Mark (Phyllis) Loughney; Sister in laws, Bina (Jack) Wert, and Patty Loughney as well as many other beloved family members.

  1. I remember the whole family well. Marie was always so kind. I remember her showing up for different events at school. Gods peace to family and friends who were lucky enough to know her.

  2. so sorry to hear of Marie. She had a very positive attitude, big smile, her memory was excellent, and I enjoyed visiting her when I brought her communion. She will be missed.

  3. So very sorry for your loss of your precious mother and granny. I enjoyed our visits together as we shared our love of organ/piano playing and family times. My mom being comparable in age also enjoyed her couple of visits with her as they both liked organ/piano playing and made computer generated cards. One time for Liam’s birthday they both made the same cards! May God surround your family with peace that she is enjoying her eternal rest with no more pain.
