Palmira “Polly” Sturino

Palmira M. “Polly” Sturino, age 65 of Hudson WI, died on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital In Minneapolis MN. Polly was born May 4, 1945 in Albuquerque NM to parents Julian and Maria (Gonzales) Saavedra. Polly graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Albuquerque, and earned a nursing degree from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in St Cloud MN. Most recently, Polly worked at the on-site Medical Department on the campus of 3M.

Outside of work, Polly loved to quilt, spending countless hours, weeks, and even months designing, creating, and perfecting beautiful quilts. Polly also enjoyed reading, as well as volunteering. Polly volunteered her time to church activities, the St. Patrick’s Hope Choir, and the Phipps.

On August 14, 1971 at the Mt. Carmel Catholic Church of Kenosha WI, Polly was united in marriage to Mark Sturino. Their union in marriage would be blessed with three children, and thirty-nine years together. Family was important to Polly, who loved her children, and adored her grandkids.

Polly is survived by her husband, Mark Sturino of Hudson; daughters, Maria (John) Cancino of New Hope MN, and Kathryn (Tim) Schmidt of Milwaukee WI; son Mark Sturino of Brooklyn NY; grandchildren Adriana, Mateo, Connor and Alexandra; sisters, Marcella (Glenn) Lockhart of Los Alamos NM, and Ana (Jim) Maghielse of Colorado Springs CO; brothers, Albert (Delores) Saavedra, Nestor Saavedra, and Julian Saavedra Jr., all of Albuquerque NM; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

Mass of Christian Burial for Polly Sturino will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at church, and also from 4:00-7:00PM, with a 7:00PM Prayer Service, on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family. Services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, 715-386-3725.
