Richard “Grandpa Jake, Uncle Dick, Dick” Leroy Grundstrom, age 82, of Hudson, Wisconsin, passed away on April 21, 2023. Richard was born on January 29th, 1941 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Lloyd and Enid Grundstrom. Richard graduated from Burnsville High School and shortly after enlisted into the Airforce, proudly serving the country for four years.

While enlisted, Richard met his wife Elsie through a friend on the base. They married in 1964 and enjoyed nearly 60 years of marriage. During his time enlisted, Richard began working on golf courses which became his lifelong vocation. He served on the MN Golf Course Superintendents Association Board of Directors and was well known for his talents and high expectations for building and maintaining beautiful golf courses. In 1969 Richard was the 1st Superintendent at Dellwood Hills Golf Course. In 1975, he was recruited to be the Superintendent at Indian Hills Golf Course where he worked until he retired in 2002. In addition to being the Superintendent, Richard enjoyed playing golf and left his “marker” on many courses.

During retirement, Richard and Elsie moved to Hayward, Wisconsin where they spent several years and developed many new friendships. Richard was someone who was always there to lend a helping hand. He loved the Hayward Community and was proud to serve as a volunteer for the Hayward Lions Club.

Richard was a tremendously talented man who gave of himself to many others. He loved to work with wood and built many things for many people throughout the years. He was also an artist and loved to draw, especially for his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Most important to Richard was his grandchildren. He was a loving Grandpa who was always there for them and will be greatly missed.
Richard will never leave the hearts of his beloved wife Elsie Grundstrom, his sons Dean (Mary) Grundstrom, and Kevin (Jenney) Grundstrom. His Grandchildren Wyatt, Madison, and Cody. As well as his brother Robert (Betty) Grundstrom and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Gary Grundstrom.

Richard’s memorial service will be held on Thursday April 27th, 2023 at O’Connell Family Funeral Home 520 11th St. S. Hudson, WI. The visitation will begin at 3:00pm with the service following at 4:00pm. Following the service there will be military honors as well as a Celebration of Life Reception.
Memorials are preferred to the Hayward Lions Club.
